THE SHIP-11 SSS SPARTAN FLEET

28 ft. Luhrs Sportfisher
One Out Of The Past

Our Former Power Flagship
Non-Pro 2

A 28 foot Luhrs sportfisher donated to the Council, the Non-Pro 2 was adopted by Ship 11 in 2002 at the Pardee Sea Base Marina del Rey. Donated boats have their issues, and this was no exception. We needed to rewire and replace bilge pumps, and reseat various fittings and openings. The engine needed constant TLC, with the Bos'n becoming a self appointed bilge rat, spending endless hours below decks repairing fittings, belts, and electrical.

It earned the nickname "Leaky Luhrs" from our crew, because anywhere sea or rain water could find its way in, it did! Reinforcing the deck hatches and repairing the windows after years of neglect and abuse was required. She sure looked good scrubbed up and flying the Sea Scout flag on her bow.

The interior was gorgeous, with varnished ash wood trim against white panels.

The flying bridge was a favorite hang out for the crew, as well as the spacious stern deck.

The loss of dock space, dwindling revenues and the increased costs forced on the Council after the LA County takeover of the Sea Base, resulted the Council selling the Luhrs.

Our Sponsoring Organization now accepts tax deductable donations of boats to maintain a degree of predictability for our crew. Cash or equipment donations are accepted as well.
